Letter from Superintendent

Dear School Community,                                                                                                          3/11/2020

The Mt. Gilead School District continues to work with the Morrow County Public Health Department in monitoring the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).  The district is also closely monitoring all daily information from the governor.  Ohio Schools are currently recommended to remain open.

Proactively, we are canceling school tomorrow, Friday, March 13 to better plan for any long term closure that may be mandated.  Again, long term closure has not been recommended but we want to be prepared so we can best serve our students if that mandate is ordered.  If school does get cancelled due to COVID-19 we are preparing academic activities and communications through various means.  We will be communicating those out to all parents and students as options get developed.  Please continue to monitor our website and communications as the situation remains very fluid.

Additionally, we are looking at each large-scale event that we host on a case by case basis.  The musical scheduled for this weekend is still being planned.  But, future events may be altered by orders from Governor Dewine.   We are also monitoring all future field trips or other events that have large amounts of people.  Spring sport practices may need to be revised but more information will be provided by the individual sport and coach.

The district is working hard to help prevent infection with coronaviruses and other illnesses, please take the precautions you normally would take during cold and flu season:

  1. Wash your hands often (for 20 seconds) with soap and water.  Hand sanitizer helps but it is not as effective as soap and water.

  2. Cover your mouth and nose with the sleeve of your elbow or with a tissue.

  3. Avoid close contact (touching or shaking hands) with people who are sick.

  4. Stay home when you are sick.  Keep students home when sick.

  5. Get adequate sleep and eat well-balanced meals to ensure a healthy immune system.

  6. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

  7. Healthy people in the general public do not need to wear a mask.  The CDC does recommend wearing a mask if you show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to healthy people.
