MOUNT GILEAD SCHOOLS HAS UPDATED THE BUS ROUTES FOR THE START OF THE 2017-18 SCHOOL YEAR. PLEASE LOOK FOR YOUR CHILD'S NAME BY THE GRADE HE/SHE IS ENTERING. THEIR BUS NUMBER AND APPROXIMATE PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF TIMES ARE LISTED. BY STATE LAW, EVERY STUDENT THAT RIDES A SCHOOL BUS NEEDS TO HAVE A DESIGNATED PLACE OF SAFETY. PLEASE WORK WITH YOUR CHILD IN SEEING THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF WHERE THIS PLACE OF SAFETY IS LOCATED. OUR GOAL IS TO SEE THAT ALL OUR STUDENTS ARE TRANSPORTED TO AND FROM SCHOOL IN A SAFE MANNER. WITH THE HELP OF PARENTS, DRIVERS AND STUDENTS WE CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN. FLAGS ARE AVAILABLE TO DESIGNATE A PLACE OF SAFETY FOR STUDENTS TO STAND BY WHILE LOADING AND UNLOADING THE SCHOOL BUS.
Please walk off at least 20 giant steps from the pavement of the road. Place the flag where it is visible from the road. This is where the child by law is to be waiting before the scheduled time the bus is to arrive. This is also the place your child is to be after getting off the bus and wait for the driver to recount the students. When your child can see the back of the bus as it pulls away, then he/she can proceed to their home.
Please make sure your children are in a safe location 20 feet off the roadway five minutes before the bus is to arrive. After they get off the bus in the afternoon they are to stand at their safe spot until the driver can count them to make sure the same number of children that exited the bus are visible and in safe locations.
Please make sure to read the Mt. Gilead Exempted Village School District School Bus Handbook that was revised on June 21, 2016. If you never received a school bus manual you can either ask the bus driver or check with your building office/secretary. It is important to read and review this handbook with your child.
If there are any questions in your child's pick-up or drop-off times or other pertinent information, please give Brenda Legros a call at 419-946-1646 ext. 1. We are looking forward to another safe school year at Mount Gilead Schools.
